Last Thursday, (4/19/20), the R.E.I.G.N. pledge class of Delta Sigma Pi-Theta Chi hosted our second professional event: A LinkedIn Workshop w/ guest speaker Ryan Zervakos.
This event taught us not only how to improve our LinkedIn profiles, but how to network ourselves properly through the site.
Some key takeaways about improving your LinkedIn profile:
◽LinkedIn is not a resume
◽Make your LinkedIn personalized
◽Show you're willing to learn
And it’s not just about the same content you leave on your profile. You need to post content talking about your opinions. Doing so, will give insight to who you are as a person and show tangible knowledge.
But, LinkedIn isn’t just about making your profile nice and pretty. It is the perfect networking tool that can bring opportunity to all, regardless of school, wealth, etc.
By going to your school’s LinkedIn page, you can search the alumni panel to find out where they work. From there you can type in a place you want to work and find alumni from your school! This is a great resource for reaching out and asking questions about the work and possibly scheduling a meeting with the alumni.
At the end of the day, LinkedIn is social media, so make it about you so use it as a tool to show your future employer who you are.
Side-note: Many of our events cannot be fully summarized in a blog post. If invited to one, make sure you attend it and pay your full attention.
